Seller Disclaims Jackie Onassis Letters in Sale Attempt
New York AP The man who tried to sell four Jacqueline Onassis letters claimed they came from Roswell Gilpatric via an evanescent intermediary. Autograph dealer Charles Hamilton said the seller reported an unseen sender and consigned the letters after one party claimed they were found in Gilpatric’s waste basket. Gilpatric, ex undersecretary of defense, said the letters were taken from his safe. The seller was identified only as a former attorney who once worked at Gilpatric’s firm. The district attorney’s office continues its inquiry into the sale bid as Onassis remains publicly occupied.
