Local Budget Hike Tied Mostly to Highway Costs in New Lebanon

Lebanon Valley Supervisor Harold B. Hicks reports an $8,341 1961 town budget increase driven largely by highway spending plus higher fire protection payments. Highway up to 19,015 over 1960, machinery purchases rising 4,782.50, general maintenance up 130.75, Irwin Plan costs up 1,251.76, and other changes. The general fund drops 1,689 from 1960. He notes equalization rate context and invites taxpayer questions.

Fund Drive Totals Grow for Lebanon Association

Fight donors added 42 to the Lebanon Valley Protective Association fund drive. Charles L. Danewitz, financial secretary, reports the grand total now stands at 2743.36 dollars against a goal of 2500 dollars in NEW LEBANON NY.

School Closes For Holidays

LEBANON SPRINGS New Lebanon Central School closes at noon for the holidays and will reopen Tuesday January 3. The Grange meets this evening for a Christmas party. members may exchange gifts and bring items for the Monson State Hospital. Home and community service chairmen organize toy and clothing donations and a Christmas decorations contest is judged by Vernon West and others. Cummington School also closes Friday at 12:05 for Christmas vacation, reopening January 2.

Storm forces postponement of Claverack basketball game

The storm changed to freezing rain about 10 am forcing postponement of the game with Ockawa mick at Claverack. It is tentatively rescheduled for Tuesday, January 31. Mrs. George Lucas was taken to Albany Hospital Monday afternoon after an incident in the local ambulance.
