Nuclear Power and Environment Inquiry at Stratton Ends

A two day seminar at Stratton sponsored by the Conservation Society of Southern Vermont examined nuclear power and its effects on people and the environment. Outnumbered GIs Repulse Attack Near Tay Ninh

U S infantrymen repulsed an attack by about 800 Communists near Tay Ninh with no American fatalities, part of a broader series of clashes along the Cambodian border. Marines reported heavy fighting near An Hoa Valley and Loc Ninh with multiple Viet Cong and North Vietnamese dead, while U.S. and South Vietnamese forces suffered casualties.

Fighting Spreads Along Suez Canal

United Press International reports a one hour clash across the Suez Canal between Egyptian and Israeli forces near Ballah and Kantara, the first major firefight since Sunday’s artillery duel. Czechs Tell Withdrawal Hinges On Cooperation

Prague reports Premier Oldrich Cernik told the parliament the Soviet invasion was unnecessary and unjustified but withdrawal hinges on Moscow led duties. He outlined a path of censorship and coordinated socialist policy as troops from the Warsaw Pact remain in Czechoslovakia.

Objection Voiced as GOP Civil Rights Plank Adopted

MONTPELIER UPI The human resources subcommittee of the Republican Platform Committee adopted a strong civil rights plank despite objections that it echoed a Democratic platform. Andrew Field of Montpelier protested the wording. George Little Jr. urged not to ignore discrimination. McCarthy Declines New York Ballot Nomination

Senator Eugene J. McCarthy notified New York Secretary of State John Lomenzo that he will not accept nominations for president or vice president in the state.
