Bar Association Weighs Legal Aid for the Poor in Vermont
The Vermont Bar Association plans to review a proposed Office of Economic Opportunity project to provide legal services to low income residents at its September meeting in Montpelier. A committee, including VBA members and OEO reps, will decide after discussions of a scaled back 200000 to 250000 dollar program intended to aid about 20500 families under 3000 dollars income. Opponents fear federal intrusion, control over lawyers and laymen, and non legal work by lawyers.
