Rotarians Hear Egg Facts From Area Poultry Farmer
Harold Ehrenfreund of Owlkill Farms in Cambridge New York spoke at the Rotary Luncheon about agriculture as the world’s biggest business. He described Owlkills growth from 6000 birds in 1940 to 109000 birds with 150000 under contract and 100000 young stock, plus plans to deliver 3.5 million dozen eggs in the capital district next year. He noted eggs are sold both shell and ready to eat, prices at a 26 year low, and urged careful waste disposal as a major agricultural challenge. He warned of rising U.S. food prices if bad weather or storage issues occur.
