Police report a burglary at Carroll's Drug Store on Main Street over the weekend. A thief entered through a high rear window, opened a safe, took about $2,000 in cash including a coin collection, and stole narcotics and needles from the pharmacy section.
United Press International reports a widening split between the United States and Britain over Arab Israeli peace terms. London favors early talks under UN mediation with Israel withdraw from Sinai, while Washington pushes direct Arab Israeli negotiations and rejects frontier reversion. Russia backs Arab demands, France signals withdrawal condition.
Premier Fidel Castro, in a two hour address, says Che Guevara was probably captured alive by Bolivian troops, then shot. He cites a deserter as a possible betrayer and announces a 30 day national mourning with 72 hours of suspended public spectacles.
Ronald Ramey a 22 year old from Pownal and Abingdon Virginia died after his car struck a tree on Main Street Hoosick Falls. Curtis Carey 24 of Bennington was hospitalized in critical condition with injuries. Ramey born February 18 1944 served in the U S Navy and worked at Warren Wire Co. Survivors include his mother and step father. Police investigators were Chief Demick and Sgt Harrison.
DETROIT UPD Negotiations to end the 40 day UAW strike against Ford Motor Co hung on a dime-an-hour difference. Ford would consider raises up to 80 cents an hour over three years while the UAW seeks at least 90 cents. Sunday's 11 hour bargaining ended with a break for the night amid a long news blackout.
U S planes again hit own Marines at Con Thien in three days, killing five and wounding 26. Five additional strikes Friday and Sunday left casualties as U S B 52s bombed Mu Gia Pass and Haiphong harbor bridges were mined under Navy command. US forces report six Americans killed and 21 wounded in a separate Co Thien fight.

State Police continued the investigation into an explosion at the Sutton home of Lyndon State College education professor Arthur E. Hamalainen 59 who died from burns after the blast Friday. The house burned, a passerby saw him at a window, his wife was away, and police ruled out a bomb, suspecting gas as the cause.
UPI surveys 25 GOP governors five months before the primary show most undecided or favoring uncommitted delegations. Only Rockefeller and Chafee publicly back Romney. Romney and Nixon remain uncommitted while Agnew urges Rockefeller's candidacy and McCall praises Rockefeller despite perceived inaccessibility.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge by six New York residents to federal aid for parochial schools. If they win, federal funding could face broader attacks nationwide. Arguments will occur this term with a written opinion later.

Troy area buses resume service after a 25 day strike by Local 132 of the Amalgamated Transportation Union against United Traction Co. Voted 202 to 44 with 36 abstentions to accept a package settlement of 32 cents and fringe benefits. Immediate 13 cent increase, seven cents next July, 12 cents in January 1969. Drivers to $2.85 an hour, mechanics to $3.05.
Deputy Defense Secretary Paul H. Nitze accuses North Vietnam of violating the Geneva convention by parading U S prisoners for selective news access and selling films and photos worldwide. He cites 212 Americans captured, 570 missing, and Red Cross access being denied.
State Fire Marshal John Vergin says a week long inquest will probe the $3 million Springfield High School fire, with conflicting stories noted. A preliminary report blamed a short circuit but not as the prime cause, as leads are followed and further inquests may occur in other sections of the state. Vergin will meet tonight with the Springfield High School Board to discuss progress.
Police were called to remove railroad ties placed on tracks at the Hoosac Tunnel entrance after a westbound train struck the pile of lumber. No damage to the train was reported.
