Contractor Tests Children Diets For Fallout
The Public Health Service says teenage and infant total diet samples from 30 U.S. cities are being analyzed for radioactive fallout under a contract program. Consumers Union of U.S.A. in Mount Vernon, N.Y., conducts the studies to report calcium content and levels of strontium 89, strontium 90, and cesium 137 in one week of total diet. Despite expected rises in strontium 90 due to the 1961 Russian tests, levels should not require intake-reduction measures. Samples cover all edible portions of meals plus milk water and snacks.
