Celtics Squeezing For New York Five
MEMPHIS Tennessee. If the NBA playoffs start Boston hopes the New York Knicks finish fourth in the East. The Celtics trail Philadelphia and face the fourth place club while the 76ers chase third. Boston blew a 19 point lead to St Louis 123 122 as Bill Bridges sank a game winner with two seconds left. Cincinnati beat Chicago 133 117 to move into a third place tie with idle New York. Both teams were 36 42 with two games remaining. The Celtics have relied on the Knicks as fodder since 1965 and with Dick Barnett out hurt an easy series path appears likely. Tickets go on sale Thursday. The Celtics remain on pace to post a better record than last season at 57 20 with four games left.
