North Bennington to Cut Village Tax Rate in 1967
North Bennington residents can expect a sizable tax cut after a surplus in the village coffers. Trustees propose 40 cents for general fund tax, while the highway tax remains 50 cents. The plan reflects a new grand list calculation under Vermont law, doubling the value base and reducing the rate to maintain revenue. An $8,000 surplus and state highway funds support the proposal, with a three cent sinking fund request for a new fire truck covered to continue. The annual meeting is March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Bennington school gymnasium.
