Committee Deadlocked On Fair Housing Law
Washington United Press International reports the House Judiciary Committee remained deadlocked on President Johnsons federal fair housing bill. Members voiced gloom as they waited for a workable compromise, with calls for the President to intervene. The measure would outlaw rental and sale discrimination based on race religion or national origin while other sections push desegregation, jury fairness, and harsher penalties for racial violence.
