Hancock Suit May Be Re opened After Hearing

In Boston UPI reports a motion to reopen the Hancock Raceway stock case will be heard January 26 by Superior Court Judge Frank E. Smith. Judge Edmund L. Dewing set the date after consultations with multiple parties in the 1962 suit. Former state Senator Joseph L. Murphy seeks a $100,000 government bond in court custody, alleging his former lawyer had the case dismissed while he was away. Murphy claims Dr. Charles Furcolo coerced him into selling 50 shares of Hancock Raceway voting stock to a Furcolo-led group, receiving $37,500, with Furcolo backing out of an agreement to return 25 shares after the 1960 race meet. The Hancock Raceway track was foreclosed and now operates as Berkshires Downs.
