Election of UVM trustees may be delayed by legislature
Vermont lawmakers consider delaying the election of three new UVM trustees as they study a proposed reform. Rep. Salmon seeks to push the vote to later in the session while Rep. Miner advances a plan for a trustee selection board to screen candidates. Gov Hoff criticizes current practice as conflict of interest. Four legislators have announced candidacies for the seats. UVM supports legislators as trustees and seeks restoration of about 2 million cut from its budget. Rep Part ridge, a trustee, says he will judge the budget request impartially.

Vermont outlines wide tax reform to cut property bills
The Vermont State Tax Department proposes a compact 10 page bill to replace 200 pages of statutes, abolish the poll tax, and shift real property tax administration to localities. It targets a 15 to 25 percent burden reduction, with exemptions for state and church lands, education properties, and several civic entities. The plan includes five year exemption deals, mutual funding between towns and exempt groups, updated listing dates to January 1, and a two route appeal system to protect taxpayers. The changes would require five years to fully implement, with costs estimated for listers, microfilm files, and land map production.
