Soviet broadcasts reported bloody resistance to Mao Tse-tung s purge in six provinces of Red China. Unconfirmed clashes between Russian and Chinese forces were noted along the Sino Soviet frontier. Radio Moscow said pro Mao factions faced stiff resistance in Henan Hopeh Kwantung Heilungkiang.

Vote Today On School Bond in Bennington District

Voters cast ballots at Bennington Elementary School to decide up to 840000 in bonds for a 24 room neighborhood elementary school on Stark Street. Polls close at 8 p.m. Absentee ballots, about 56, are being requested, a typical figure for the district. The proposed 1175638 total school cost yields 835847 to be raised after state aid. The sale would borrow up to 840000 at up to 4.5 percent interest over 20 years to relieve overcrowding.

Eight GIs Die in Accidental Shelling Amid Vietnam War

SAIGON reports eight Americans killed and 18 wounded in two accidental shellings during renewed U S air and sea offensives. A bomb fell short near War Zone C, and an artillery round hit a company of the 1st Air Cavalry near Qui Nhon. Marines fight Viet Cong near Da Nang as U S ships shell Gulf of Tonkin batteries. Casualties include one dead and 14 wounded in the first incident and seven dead, four wounded in the second.

Lin Piao told Viet Cong military leaders China will make the greatest sacrifices to assure a Communist victory in Vietnam. The telegram sent on behalf of the Chinese armed forces marked the Viet Cong Unification Day six years into the war. New York GOP Leader Seeks Higher School Aid
