Vermont Legislature Faces Revenue Crunch and Ethics Debate
Vermont legislators report a mounting revenue shortfall with July 1 1969 deficit projected at 8.33 million and 1970 costs rising about 20 percent to 96 million. A four per cent sales tax drawn heavy opposition after two public hearings, while ethics bill questions probe conflicts of interest. The session considers building codes, liquor sale votes, and the fate of the Pavilion Hotel as funds run tight. Representative George Van Santvoord notes leadership changes and loyalty to the governor as belt tightening continues.
