Vermont Professor Publishes First Book on Robert Penn Warren
University of Vermont assistant professor Victor Strandberg writes A Colder Fire, a 292 page study of Warren's poetry. He argues Warren's imagery and themes resist immediate clarity, reflecting modern literature’s obscurity, with focus on existence and identity. The book traces Warren from early poems to Brother to Dragons, linking psychology and religion to an unconscious self as core Warren motif. Strandberg joined UVM in 1962 after Clark University and Brown PhD work.
