Bennington Fire Department volunteers controlled the blaze before extensive damage. portions of the roof and upper floor of the two story house were damaged while the owners were away shopping. Two Guardsmen Die In Air Crash at Burlington
Two Vermont Air National Guardsmen Maj. John J. Ulrich and Capt. John A. Harrell were killed when their T33 trainer crashed near Burlington just before Christmas. The 134th Fighter Interceptor Squadron members were residents of South Burlington and died after the jet failed to reach the runway, exploded, and flames rose 250 feet. Civilians were kept from the site as investigators probed the incident, Vermont’s third crash since Sept. 20.
