Baytown native wins grand prize at New Mexico art show
Baytown native Roy Cavarretta won the grand prize and Best in Class for a gourd art piece titled Seabound at the Ruidoso Art Festival in New Mexico. His win marked the first gourd artist to claim the festival's top prize, with prior honors at Kerrville’s Southwest Fine Art Gourd show. Cavarretta, a 1965 Lee High School and Lee College alum, pursued art after a long sales career, discovering gourd art in 2010 and planning future shows in Casa Grande, Arizona.
