Barbers Hill student killed in car wreck
A Barbers Hill High School student, 15 year old Tommy Stover, died after a car rolled into a ditch on FM 565 in Mont Belvieu Friday afternoon. The driver, 16 year old Trevor Lamas, was injured and later released from Memorial Hermann Hospital. Funeral services for Tommy Stover are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Maranatha Church in Mont Belvieu.

Chambers County approves hospital district creation
Chambers County voters authorized a new tax supported hospital district for Winnie Stowell area by 315 to 164. The district will levy at least 0.9 percent sales tax, funding emergency room services at Winnie Community Hospital for residents in need. About one third of ER patients cannot pay. Majority of tax burden comes from travelers on I 10 and other highways. Whnnie and Stowell residents face about $50 yearly. Five temporary directors, later replaced by five elected at large_appointees set by the Commissioners Court.
