Wet weather dampens local events
Rain drenched the area Saturday washing out or crippling most outdoor events. The National Weather Service logged over three inches in Baytown with some Houston areas at five inches. Baytown City Manager Gary Jackson said the city fared relatively well with no major floods. Police reported one stoplight outage at Baker Road and Emmett Hutto Boulevard. Cinco de Mayo events on Texas Avenue were canceled or disrupted.

Baytown Bank Fire Destroys SouthTrust Branch at Garth Road
A late night blaze at SouthTrust Bank on 6810 Garth Road caused total loss. ADT sensors alerted manager Sheila Patterson and Baytown Police around 2 am. Engineers say fire was accidental likely from electrical issues. Shaun Merriman, bank president, and Patterson vowed to serve 1,600 customers and rebuild within 60 days.
