Baytown celebrates Mexican heritage with a Cinco de Mayo parade on Texas Avenue at Jones Street from 4 to 9 p.m. Alaniz Dancers and local groups perform while food and craft vendors line a multi-block area. Organizers include Goose Creek Association, West Baytown Civic, Southwest Addition Civic, Baytown Parks, Constable Jones’ office and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to promote unity, diversity and freedom.

Baytown Youth Fair Cookoff began Friday at the Baytown Fairgrounds with 31 teams prepaid for entry. Organizers say proceeds benefit the fair as teams including Git Er Dunn Cooks Old River Trash Camp Cookers and Steel Smokin compete in chicken brisket ribs fajitas margaritas and chili. Winners will be announced Sunday after judging, with trophies for top four in each category and a congeniality prize.
