Houston and Kokernot Friendship in Early Texas Tales
The recollections of David Levi Kokernot recount meeting Sam Houston in 1834 at Nacogdoches, Houston’s bold talk on Texas independence, and their growing alliance amid land disputes and war rumors. The narrative notes Houston’s defense of Kokernot in a cattle rustling case and a later halt to Kokernot’s cattle roundups after the San Jacinto era.
