Kaminski Wins Close Runoff For La Porte Council
In unofficial results Dottie Kaminski narrowly defeated Rick Guzman for La Porte City Council At Large Position B. Kaminski 704 votes to Guzman 679.9 with 103 ballots cast, margin 50.18 to 49.82. Three provisional ballots were referred for review and canvassing is scheduled pending registrar report.

Baytown Seafood Fire Delays Demolition of Historic Eatery
Baytown firefighters battled a blaze at the Baytown Seafood restaurant on West Main before a scheduled Monday demolition. The 709 West Main site, open since 1993 and recently cleared for teardown to make way for a larger neighboring building, faced fire crews arriving at 2 43 a m. Fire Chief Shon Blake said engines 5 3 and 6 plus ladder units responded and requested additional aid.

Jury finds Joseph Jean guilty of capital murder in Baytown teens case
A Harris County jury deliberated about two hours Monday before convicting 38 year old Joseph Francois Jean of the capital murder of two Baytown teenage girls killed early last year. The verdict drew mixed reactions as Jean showed a rare smile in court while family members wept.

ExxonMobil reported an eight week propylene release at its Baytown refinery complex near Houston. The tub ing leak began by April 12 and was isolated within 30 minutes of discovery June 2. Regulators are reviewing the self reported incident with no further comment from Exxon.
