Christmas lights on Cat Unit No 1 at Baytown Refinery
Fifty years ago Baytown Refinery of Humble Oil lit up Cat Unit No 1 the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit as the biggest Christmas tree in Texas. More than 1 200 lights stretched across 57 strings shining in red green and yellow. The Baytown Briefs from December 14 1956 noted the installation by electricians A H Brandon W E Waddell and W H Boucher with James Weir assisting. The issue also carried safety and sports items including a trophy presentation at Humble Duplicate Bridge Club and high school football notes. Cat Unit No 1 has since been demolished while Cat Unit No 2 remains and Cat Unit No 3 is now more central.
