Goose Creek CISD held a dedication ceremony Monday for a memorial garden honoring deceased employees Donna Shields Reba Beal and Robert Kelley. Superintendent Barbara Sultis said the trio were full of life and loved coming to work, reflecting the district’s appreciation.

Baytown Housing Authority board on Monday approved a final contract with outside accountant Richard Breedlove of Spring to conduct an annual audit of the agency books. The move follows a critical HUD OIG report earlier this year citing fund transfer and record keeping violations. Breedlove estimates 250 work hours, with an update after 100 hours and a possible completion by December 31. The board also adopted a resolution to implement policies aligning with HUD recommendations.
Kean Ernest Cheek Jr. of Baytown faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter for a Sunday morning collision on Interstate 10 near Stolander Road. His Ford Explorer struck a Dodge Stratus being pushed on the eastbound shoulder, killing Brandon Smith, 23, and Dixie Pond, 24, both Baytown residents. Andy Winkler, 20, also of Baytown, survived.
