Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Martha Lange of Crosby
Funeral services were conducted at Earthman Highlands Chapel for 87 year old Martha Helen Lange of Crosby. She died Monday in a Houston hospital. Survivors include a daughter Minnie Gracey and two sons Willie and Paul Lange. Also eight siblings and six grandchildren with six great grandchildren. Pallbearers named.

Haiti's Duvalier Puts Life Term in Play for Dynasty
The Haitian leader Francois Duvalier moved to make himself president for life in 1964 and earlier signaled his son as successor. Simone Ovide, his wife, opposed this plan, splitting the family at the presidential palace. A mystic and voodoo advocate, he ruled with a feared grip, speaking little Creole and leveraging folk religion to tighten control. Born 1907, he trained as a doctor and entered politics in the 1930s, rising after aiding yaws eradication and serving as health and labor minister before becoming president in 1957.
