New Lee College President Pledges LC Program Push

Dr Raymond Cleveland, president elect, visited Lee College to confer with regents and staff before taking office on July 1. Humble Exec Appointed To City Tax Board

Trustt C. Smith of Humble Oil Baytown Refinery was appointed to the city board of equalization by the council on Thursday night. Ronn Haddox was reappointed. Dr C L Umbhalty and Truman Cox may not seek another term. A third appointment will be made next meeting. Stasney urged charter changes for earlier appointments and terms to ensure continuity. Kelley praised service on the board as a thankless job.

Old Units To Fall Humble Enjay Building To House 850

Humble Oil and Ref Co and Enjay Chemical Co will move to a new Main Office Building on Decker Drive. The current 10th floor completed of a 12 floor plan will halt as occupancy shifts. The 850 employees will consolidate from 18 Baytown buildings into the new structure, with demolition of the old facilities including the historic hospital built in 1920. Construction aims for December completion and January 1972 occupancy.

Craigmont Plant Purchase Delayed by Bid Debate

City council delays award for the Craigmont sewage plant after two sealed bids are opened and two more await preparation. Public Works Director Jack Morton notes opening the first two bids would invalidate the others. Councilman Lamar Kelley opposes the 250000 gallon per day package plant in favor of a 50000 gallon option ready sooner. Federal funding for temporary facilities is not available. Advisory Panel Named By Council for BHA

The Baytown City Council approved an advisory committee for the Baytown Housing Authority at the request of the Baytown Tenants Association. Tenants representatives will attend Housing Authority meetings monthly. Board member Herb Campbell supported the move, saying it could improve tenant information flow. Campbell and Ervie Coxson were reappointed to the Housing Authority.

New Cedar Bayou U D planned on 211 acres near Baytown

Baytown City Council approved creation of Cedar Bayou Municipal Utility District in West Chambers County half a mile north of the Cedar Bayou bridge on Highway 146. Glenn McMillan of Westchester Corp. outlined a 211318 acre condo project with 500 quad-plex units and amenities. He cited condo prices of 4500 down and 142 monthly, and noted Westchester projects in Conroe and Houston area developments.

Mobay City Pact To Yield $50,000

Baytown City Council approved a contract with Mobay Chemical guaranteeing the city $50,050 in seven annual installments from April 1, 1971 to April 1, 1977. Mayor Glen Walker opposed, saying he had not had time to study the deal and suggested postponing action. Lamar Kelley and Councilman Leonard Stasney urged timely approval, noting the contract mirrors patterns for future deals.
