Life in Bath Then and Now Nostalgic Comparisons
The passage recalls Bath past life with rudimentary plumbing from roof rain, well water, kerosene lighting, gas street flames, horse drawn transit, and fire engines. It contrasts busy river trade, ships and steamers, grand hotels and churches, with a polite, decorous society and people socializing in person rather than by phone.
