Mrs Haven Sawyer of Bangor president of the Maine Congress of Parents and Teachers and secretary of the Maine school survey commission addressed about education funding and rural school conditions at the North Center P T A annual reception at Central church parish house. The event drew roughly 150 including many men and featured songs, remarks from Superintendent Clinton O D Wilson and introductions of the program committee and guests.

Vast Improvement at Bath Memorial Hospital in Six Months
In six months ending May 1 1934 Bath Memorial Hospital spent nearly 8000 for major upgrades. New fire alarm, operating lights and tables, sterilizers, bed, metabolism machine, delivery room equipment, hall beds, and X-ray unit boosted safety and comfort. Davenport Trustees contributed 5000, with other gifts from Nightingale Club Junior League and families. Hospital now among best equipped in New England for its size.

Bath Water District appoints Libby acting superintendent
In a special Bath Water District meeting Maurice A. Libby was named acting superintendent to replace the late Abbott. Libby trained by Abbott, with MIT water engineering courses and diver training, has managed river mains and overhauls this season. He is a Bliss College graduate and formerly worked at Unger Buick in Miami.

Federal building to undergo repairs
Extensive repairs have been arranged for the local Federal building by Acting Postmaster Edward N Hartnett. Proposals will be opened Thursday at 2 p.m. for a new steel plated roof and replacement of flashings gutters and roof pipes. The heavy cast iron balustrade will be removed and a double pipe railing installed. Water pipes reapplied with red brass piping and the heating plant overhauled by O M Redlon. Plumbers are renewing damaged downspouts and new fixtures will be installed. A future lighting contract and interior painting will complete the work.

Bath Water District superintendent dies in apparent suicide
Walter F. Abbott 49, superintendent, was found in the Bath Water District office meter room at 1 Lombard Street after leaving home to read pressure gauges. He died Sunday morning from a self-inflicted gunshot wound with a rope apparatus described as meticulous in its setup.

Red Cross Drive Raises 950 Dollars
The annual Red Cross drive closed with 950 dollars raised including about 450 from canvass and 500 in special gifts. Rev. Joseph O. Purdue chaired the effort to precede other drives this season. Thanks extend to all donors and merchants and banks displaying posters. Woolwich road project nears completion and opening
New State highway in Woolwich advances with three major improvements at a substantial cost. An eight inch concrete foundation under the road and a six inch surface cement layer are being poured over a trestle that eliminates the Maine Central railroad crossing at the Dike. A new steel bridge span over the branch line is finished but not opened until the overhead trestle and concrete roadway are complete. The section connects the new bridge over the branch with the trestle over the tracks and is near completion by General Contracting Co of Bath led by Andrew S Merrill.

Four Bath Girls Hurt In Head On Collision
Four Bath girls were hospitalized after a head on wreck at Dunton corner near midnight Friday. Two Bowdoin seniors in the same car were treated for cuts and released. all four girls were held for observation. The other car was driven by Frederick L. King of Bath. Deputy Carver ruled the crash unavoidable under the circumstances.
