Cold waves from Equator may warm Arctic air says weather bureau
A paradoxical cold spell may have been fed by the stratosphere over the equator rather than polar highs. Meteorologists note only slight high pressure over Hudson Bay with lows near Chesterfield Inlet and Churchill, puzzling experts and keeping stratospheric testing expensive and uncertain. A Caribbean hurricane formed off Venezuela farther south than any recorded before, maps show a deep low pressure system driving the cyclone.
