Old Time Bath Ship Clipper Heritage and Down Easters
This reminiscence traces the clippers and Down East traders that sailed from New York to San Francisco and to Alaska, noting records set by the M P Grace and Seminole, the rise of the Dawn Easters, life aboard ships, crew lore, and the shift to modern powered freighters with refrigeration and engines. It contrasts the era of mast and sail with today’s self powered giants and global connectivity.

Bell and light system proposed to curb false fire alarms
At Bangor Central Fire Station a plan suggests placing a gong or bell above each fire alarm box to signal when a box is pulled, drawing attention to the person, plus a nearby electric light to aid identification. The aim is to deter false alarms as costly and risky. Bells could be installed with little cost, and alarms outside lighted ranges could be relocated.
