Electrical Man Dispatches Trains on Boston & Maine Line

A new centralized signal and train dispatching system called the Electrical Man goes into operation on parts of the Boston & Maine system with plans to extend to the Fitchburg and Portland divisions. One operator with an assistant can control all switches and signals across stretches up to 50 miles, replacing manual levers and enhancing safety and speed. The system uses a miniature in-tower railroad display, electronic interlocks, and remote signal control with automatic feedback, and is expected to be fully operational by next September.
