A telegram from Senator Gould to The Bangor Daily News states Estonia ships nearly a million sacks of potatoes to the United States. It notes Estonia is the only European nation to have complied with the quarantine rules of this country.
Years ago most toys offered here were foreign made. Today American toy manufacturers are prominent in the market and it is estimated that over $100,000,000 worth of American made toys have been sold for the Christmas trade.
Miss Julia Main, student at Miss Gibbs secretarial school in Boston, is on vacation with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Archibald M. Main of Middle Street.
Bath faced a chaotic ice storm with heavy limb breakage and many trees felled. Power was cut for hours in parts of the city, affecting homes, the hospital, and some factories while utilities, including Central Maine Power Co, battled outages and restored service by Friday morning.
Ice formed on the Kennebec bridge draw increased weight by at least 25 tons according to control-room meters. The heavy ice coated cables and required a Thursday work crew to clear the draw while Thursday morning’s warmth melted much of the ice.
Byron Clark of 851 High street, a polisher at Torrey Roller Bushings Works, lost the index and middle fingers of his right hand at Bailey Evening School in an accident at the manual training department. He was guiding the wood with his hand when the four blade planer bit and severed two fingers.
No one appeared in remonstrance to the permanent sidewalk assessments before the board of aldermen who met Wednesday night to listen to appeals. City Clerk Gilmore was directed to turn the assessments over to the board of assessors and if they are not paid by the time tax bills are mailed next year the amount will be included in the 1930 tax bill. Mayor Cahill presided and Alderman Sam Povich was selected to draw six for traverse jury in the January term of Sagadahoc superior court which convenes Jan. 14. The appointment of Levi D. Spinney as a constable was confirmed. The degree team of Queen Esther Rebekah lodge was given a venison supper at Odd Fellows Hall with host Henry T. B. Leeman.
The Grade 8 class at Central grammar school enjoyed a Christmas party with cornballs fudge apples cocoa cake and cookies served by a line of girls in caps and aprons. Santa portrayed by Lucy Rogers handed out presents while Otis Smith won the peanut hunt. The division presented Miss Quimby with fruit stationery and toiletry gifts as thanks to parents.
Amanda V Coleman of York Harbor Boone Island lighthouse station sends a personal check to Pres. George C. Quicksall backing the save the Erudition school house campaign. She recalls Morse high class of 1912 and notes the building’s public service and her own childhood associations.
Grade eight pupils at Central Grammar School present a musical program with sopranos and altos led by Dorothy Renaud Lucy Rogers and others. Lawrence Moore returned Wednesday night to North Edgecomb after a week with his aunt Mrs Frank French.
The Plant's Garage Inc. annual banquet in East Brunswick honored 17 employees with profit based bonuses. Chester A. Plant spoke alongside officers and guests including Mr. Brown of Chevrolet Portland. A meal, solos, readings, and songs followed the formal address.
The Co-Workers Class of the First Baptist church held its monthly social and business meeting at Mrs. Simon Moore’s home with 15 attendees. Officers elected: Edith Miller president Florence Martin VP Bernice Oliver secretary Bertha Furber treasurer Gardiner Roberts teacher Charles J White assistant teacher.

Navy ships celebrate Christmas with a full dinner for sailors as turkeys favor each six men, plus pies fruit and cigars. The highlight is a charity visit from Salvation Army inviting orphaned children aboard for games, a band concert and gifts from a decorated Christmas tree.
The Corliss Street church held a Christmas service with a Schubert Serenade prelude, readings, anthems, carols, solos, scripture, and a sermon by Rev. Charles H. Berry titled Wise Men Find Christ. The service closed with hymns and benediction.
Miss Anne Kimball arrives from New York City to spend the holidays with her mother Mrs. Edward H. Kimball at 138 Lincoln Street. She will be joined by Miss Margaret Cargill of New York.
