City Basketball League Ready to Start Season
The fifth City Basketball League meeting at the Y M C A finalized entries from Bath Iron Works Hyde Windlass Oakhurst and the Colonial Club. Officials and schedules were approved printings planned for 300 copies. Admission will be 15 cents for adults 10 cents for students as the league set its first rounds and dates through March with referees timers and scorers named.

137 children attended the Colonial club Christmas tree gift distribution. Ex Alderman J Haviland Torrey chaired the committee, naming recipients who received cloth ing, toys, fruit, candy and nuts, plus ice cream from Wiseman Farms. Children then went to the Opera House for a free show, a deed of thanks from the Opera House and club, with Red Cross helpers and club members assisting.

Bath Iron Works Corp signs the contract for the clipper stem yacht Carolina II for El dredge R. Johnson of Camden New Jersey. Bath Iron Works to build a 265 foot Diesel yacht for Eldridge R. Johnson of Moorestown New Jersey to support South Pacific archaeological explorations. The vessel will carry fuel water a full lab and expedition gear and launch in May 1931 with Pennsylvania scientists aboard for trips to New Zealand New Guinea and Easter Island.

Home of former Woolwich man burns in South Paris
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the $10,000 Clifford building on Oxford street in South Paris Sunday. It was occupied by Rev. William Bradeen and his son-in-law Donald Ridley. The family were at church when the fire, discovered in a shed, spread quickly through the house and stable. Mr Yvte Woolwich, Mrs. Ralph Balkam and daughter Lorraine have returned from Springfield Mass where they spent Christmas.

Stolen Buick Recovered After Joy Ride
Charles William Robinson aged 20 and a companion took his father's Buick seven passenger sedan after fitting new 1930 plates, parked on Water street, vanished from the Opera House area, and were found the next morning by City Marshal Whitney in front of Sagadahock Veteran Fireman's association. The accelerator was disconnected and little gasoline remained, but the car was driven to Front street near City Hall after recovery.

The Junior Hospital League hosted an outstanding New Year’s Eve ball at the YMCA gymnasium drawing over 75 couples. Grindell’s orchestra provided lively music as Auld Lang Syne rang out at midnight and guests enjoyed sandwiches, cake and coffee until 1 AM. The event was praised as the season’s prettiest dance with all in festive mood.
