South End Airport Under Consideration
Preliminary steps for founding an airport near the South end of Washington street have been taken with Representative-elect Sumner Sewall deeply backing the project and enlisting U. S. Senator Frederick Hale. Sewall argues the site would serve as a government base in war and peace, especially for seaplanes, with a road marsh runway as the first phase and hangar construction to follow. The plan seems affordable, but concerns include a state official’s note that nearby hills could hinder takeoffs with certain winds.
