A Maine reader notes past assurances that Maine has harmless snakes, but recent sightings of carnival snakes prompt calls to ban or bond importation. A Rockland rattlesnake kill boosts demand for restricting carnival snakes, possibly denying licenses or requiring bonds of 1000 dollars per snake. Authorities and local bureaus back cleaner entry to protect tourism efforts.
