Mission funds stolen with keeper trousers at Golden Rule

A visitor stole keeper Charles A. Brown's trousers from the Golden Rule Mission at 30 Broad Street between midnight Saturday and 5 am Sunday. About $10 to $15 in mission funds were taken along with the pants, leaving the charity short amid a hard winter and rising homeless numbers. Brown suspects a recent visitor named John Smith, though many share the name. the missing garments were seen carried from near the bed and pants pile. The incident compounds charity strains after Polish laborer Antony Siwak died recently at the mission, with funeral costs and medical care draining already sparse funds.
