Clam Tax Withdrawn As Legislature Seeks Change
Maine State Senator Rocey Ross Jr. asks the taxation committee to drop his 3 percent clam tax bill and instead back George Lasky’s measure to repeal the quahog tax. He notes confusion over whether the tax targets diggers or dealers and aims to clarify current law without adding new costs to clammers. Meanwhile, Rockland to Bath passenger rail service ends after over a century, with debt on Knox & Lincoln Railroad to be paid off into the early 1960s.
