DeMolay awards $100 scholarship at Bath meeting
Lance Fuller, past master councillor of the Bath chapter, received a one hundred dollar DeMolay scholarship at the Saturday meeting when officers for the coming term were installed. Morse High and Morse Junior High Winners in Industrial Events
Morse High and Morse Junior High each produced three winners in state industrial arts contests with Bruce Fortier winning the Machinist division and Raymond Soule taking the Sheet Metal title. David A. Abbott was runner up in Machinist. Fortier exhibited a grinder's bench and Abbott a tool maker's machine-vice weighing 50 pounds. Soule created a self made utility box for his sheet metal entry. Accompanied by Linwood W. Abbott, the Morse team joined 52 entries from 15 Maine schools in a nationwide program evaluating senior mechanical arts projects. Judging emphasized subject knowledge over display, with 10 percent from exhibits and 90 percent from written and oral tests. First-place winners Fortier and Soule will advance to join seven regional champions.

Bath Schools Close For The Spring Vacation
Bath's nine schools closed at noon Friday and reopen Monday April 6 for a spring vacation extended by a half day to observe Good Friday. PUC Suspends Bath Water Rate Hike Three Months
The Public Utilities Commission announced a temporary three month suspension of Bath’s proposed water rate increase. The suspension, stretching to 90 days and possibly extended, gives the commission time to study the case before a decision. If approved, hydrant rentals could rise over 300 percent for the city and about 20 percent for other customers. Frederick Allen said rates could become retroactive if the commission finds a need.
