Lions Club Approves Plan for Ladder Truck
The Lions Club at Odd Fellows hall unanimously authorized its secretary to pen a letter to Mayor Rogers endorsing Chief Frates plan to purchase a one man junior aerial ladder truck. Edward Thomas Jr spoke on the Maine firemen school and urged readiness to call for the department. The proposed truck costs about 16000 dollars and features a 65 foot ladder operable by one man, with water tower capability and enhanced safety.

Destroyer to be named in honor of naval hero
The USS Hyman, a new type heavy destroyer, will be launched at Bath Iron Works on Saturday. It will be named for Lieut. Commander Willford Milton Hyman, who commanded the USS Sims during the Coral Sea battle and went down with the ship. His widow, Mrs. Edwige Brechon Hyman, will sponsor the vessel. Hyman was born August 16, 1901 in Pueblo Colorado and served on several ships including the USS New Mexico and USS Quincy before his award of the Navy Cross for heroism at the Coral Sea.

Removing apparatus at Gibbons Coal Cove site

Bath man earns Good Conduct Medal in Bougainville action
Lawrence Coombs of Bath Maine, son of I C and Mrs Coombs, awarded the Good Conduct Medal while serving with the Americal Division on Bougainville Island. He leads a platoon of ambulances, previously served in Australia New Caledonia Guadalcanal and Fiji, and was cited at New Caledonia for rescuing 14 survivors and guiding litter bearers through hazardous terrain. Inducted January 16 1941, he worked as an electrician at Boston Navy Yard before joining Morse High School graduate.
