The Lovell Chronicle notes farmer J Hans Hansen grew five thousand pounds of potatoes from a tenth of an acre after vines faded earlier in the season. From a full acre at a penny a pound that yield would be five hundred dollars. An August inspection predicted no potatoes, yet a remarkable sixty day recovery produced a banner crop for the valley.
