Interest Grows in Ellis Mensing Suit Amid Turbulent Week

Crowded district court sessions last week featured a $25 000 slander claim by attorney H Bilis of Greybull against Fred Mensing. A verdict for Mensing followed after the defense won an instructed verdict for the defendant. The judge ruled public criticism of a official not slanderous and noted Mensing’s publishing methods.

A Casper ceremony organized a temple of the Dramatic Order of the Knights of Korassan under Deputy Imperial Prince Finis Bentley. Pilgrims from Basin attended including D T Hand and others. A banquet followed with Pythian Sisters, and a Basin delegation elected O A Scholz Royal Prince.

School boys and cider investigated by sheriff

The Greybull schol board complained to Sheriff Wickwire about boys using intoxicating liquor. The sheriff investigated and found they bought cider which they let become hard. It says the boys had not been buying liquor, the sheriff gave them a talk, and no further complaint is expected.

Mrs Harris Hosts Bridge Tea At North Sixth Street Home

Good Sale for Perkins Near Manderson Draws Buyers

The H. B. Perkins sale two miles south of Manderson attracted many buyers. Col. Dad Rogers, the auctioneer, secured very good prices for most livestock and staff. A number from Basin attended the sale.

Death of William Gibson in Basin ends long career

William Gibson a longtime Basin resident and business leader died Tuesday at Mayo Brothers in Rochester after a failed blood transfusion. Born July 12 1864 in Scotland he moved to Canada then Wyoming in 1890 settling in Rawlins before trading into clothing furniture and undertaking in Basin. He served as postmaster city councilman bank vice president and M W A leader. Funeral set for Sunday at 2 30 p m from the family home with O F and M W A and Greybull encampment members attending.

Midwest Wyoming gas line work set to begin and expand

Bids for the first unit of a new pipeline project by the Midwest Wyoming Gas Co will open March 16 in Basin. Construction starts at 100n with a 14 inch main line 18 miles from Greybull to Nowood and two 10 inch lines for river crossings. Completion aimed for June 1 with further unit links to Buffalo Basin Eagle Dome and Manderson adding natural gas to that town. A Wyoming Pipe Line Co with one million capital may form, listing E T Williams J Sullivan and I A Robertson as incorporators and F B Scott LN Barrf and V Williams as directors. The firm plans to secure lands in Morrin anticline for summer drilling.

Troubles of Oil Company

A stockholder meeting for Tatmanin Mountain Oil and Gas Co in Burlington reviewed affairs. Auditors report 200235 shares issued, receipts 57256.20 from stock, 1665 from coal and casing, 5000 bank loan, expenditures 13464.25, 50457.84 for commissions and development. No directors elected since 1922-02-25. quorum credentials questioned. Several insider share allocations and questionable treasurer records noted. Wegner and Neff signed the report.

The Basin Woman’s Club met in the Library on March 1 with President Mrs. W B Hartigan presiding. Members were admitted, minutes approved, and bills ordered paid. New members Stipek and A X Johnson were voted in. A patriotic program featured violin and vocal solos, readings on Lincoln, and the play Abraham Lincoln. Refreshments followed.
