Roads and funds split between desert and mountain districts
September warrants from the First District road fund total about 10,526 for mountain-side road work and 2,053 for desert roads. The district justifies spending to beautify landscapes and ease travel from San Bernardino and Redlands to mountain resorts. Critics say the district was enlarged to favor the cities and tourism aims, with San Bernardino pushing to become a Southern California resort hub while desert residents seek to resist.
