Samuel Lewis Shank resigns as Indianapolis mayor to avoid impeachment as labor trouble looms. Henry R. Wallace, city controller, succeeds. The former mayor gained fame for saloon crackdowns, lowering high living costs by importing potatoes, and a charitable marriage ceremony practice.
The Mojave River Lands Water Co. wells drilled by Tom Williams show strong yields with a 447 foot well hitting 23 feet below the surface and a 98 foot well at 17 feet. Williams also completed a 200 foot well for the Los Angeles Soap Co and plans for more wells on local properties. Mrs. Tom Williams bought an interest in J Carrity's Baxter station mines and will begin ore shipments early next year. A Thanksgiving birthday for Miss Sarah Highbury featured locally grown decorations and a flowered room. W M Gough underwent hospital surgery in Los Angeles, with hopes for a quick recovery. Tom Williams appointed Justice of the Peace at Otis to fill a vacancy. he also runs a civil engineering office with a senior surveyor. Bruce McCormick sold turkeys for Thanksgiving and has stock for Christmas. Leslie Williams received four days leave from the Los Angeles Military Academy to visit home and a Barstow dance. Mrs Arthur Bull's six room Manix house is finished with plans for spring landscaping. Patronize home industry.

Supervisor Butler traveled from Needles to attend a San Bernardino supervisors meeting then returned by night journey. Deputy Sheriff Fred Johnson of Daggett secured an evidence warrant for the arrest of W. J. Davis, ex Santa Fe switchman at Barstow, held in Fresno and brought to San Bernardino. Davis, rooming at the Melrose Hotel, is accused of stealing a suitcase of rare and valuable works gathered from around the world by the proprietress. He hid items in an engine pit and sold pieces to dealers, part of a valued collection for the owner.
On December 1 T. H. Dudley won the Santa Monica mayoral race by a 250 vote majority over incumbent R. H. Dow. A Sunday saloon vote passed 3 to 1 in every precinct. women comprised about half of all voters.

A. J. Murphy reports from Kansas City to Los Angeles that routes from KC to Barstow vary with very good sections and rough stretches including rocks and high centers between Williams and Seligman. A special train from San Francisco bearing Italians to New York passed through Barstow en route home for the holidays. It will join No. 10 from Los Angeles at Needles. Orange shipments from the California Fruit Auction Co. totaled fourteen carloads worth about ten thousand dollars in Los Angeles.
The county supervisors amended the license ordinance to remove wholesale winery licenses. Supervisor Jones introduced the measure with Rev. C. C. Laizure’s consent, while Supervisor Horton opposed. The vote: Butler Jones Pine in favor. Glover Horton against. The move could affect road bond votes and reflects a dispute over winery control versus free sale rights.
About 65 unemployed men and a few hobos boarded a Sands freight train toward Otis on the Salt Lake line. Judge Carter and officer Harria with deputies retrieved them, fed them, and moved them to a camp south of Barstow for the night before sending them on Friday morning.
A 70 to 55 cent drop in egg prices follows a month long boycott by 4000 Los Angeles area PTA women led by president Mrs. J D Taylor.
