Growth and Development Across Barstow District

Travel through Barstow on the highway has doubled this spring due to better roads and growing population from the east. New buildings rise as river valley settlers follow, including J. H. Haney who with seven workers is building a residence and farm structures two miles below the river bridge. A. L. Doran widens his camp to meet rising travel, buying land north of Bar stow Garage for camp grounds from Henderson and Nicklin as autos fade. Arthur plans an airdome on the north hill.

Barstow Rail Yard Expands With Thirty-One Tracks

A new passenger track completed in Barstow's railroad yards increases the total to thirty-one tracks. About 400 workers will further improve yards and add tracks. Sixty trains daily, including Santa Fe and U P, pass through Barstow, with more eastward connections planned as facilities allow.

Heavy silt returns after lifting river water 17000 feet to the hills, while Barstow and Mohave River Valley boast ample water without the Boulder project. Second Liberty Loan Bonds to be Paid or Exchanged

The Treasury under Secretary Mellon calls for payment of all outstanding Second Liberty Loan bonds on November 15, 1927. Interest ends that date and about 1.76 billion dollars are outstanding. A radio announcement will inform bondholders. Remnant holdings include about 30 million in government securities with ceased interest, plus limited-issue temp bonds with old coupons. The 1917 loan, issued during WWI, may redeem now though mature in 1942. Local notes mention visitors from Berkeley and Redlands student ventures.
