The Box Social by the Hinkley Chamber of Commerce drew limited turnout due to an Barstow event. Guests included Mr and Mrs G A Marsh of Victorville and Messrs A Doran B Burke and J Jefferies of Barstow Bakersfield. Mrs A Speth won with a silvered model of The Spirit of St Louis and the prize was donated to the Fair Fund after the presentation.

Minneola Auto Turns Over At Santa Fe Crossing
A five passenger Naish overturned at the Minneola Santa Fe crossing Tuesday evening landing upside down in a ditch. The two men aboard escaped without injury and the car sustained little damage. The piece pokes fun at driving skill with a playful line about practicing to turn a somersault and land right side up.

Last month Barstow installed street signs funded by the Kiwanis Club and will now number houses with Imperial Utilities Corporation providing house numbers. Fourteen graduates, twelve boys and two girls, received diplomas at Barstow Grammar School last Thursday. Eva Edwards spoke as assistant county superintendent. Clarence Pearce presented diplomas as principal. A large crowd attended, and the program featured solos, orchestra, and remarks on the school’s $20,000 annual budget.

Mining Activities On Property East Of Barstow
Eight Barstow visitors journeyed to the old Pacific property near Ludlow as eight more from Los Angeles are expected next week to inspect this once famed million dollar producer. Baghdad Consolidated Mining Company of Los Angeles has been formed to take over Pacific Mining Corporation holdings comprising 420 acres of patented ground, mine equipment, milling plant and eight miles of railroad. Officers include J. W. Hobbs president, Judge J. M. Stevens vice president treasurer, R. G. Graves secretary, and Frank Oliver manager. A 125 ton daily capacity mill will be revived to treat 500,000 tons of ore anticipated above the 300 foot level, employing sulphuric acid and amalgamation for gold values. The Pacific Mines holdings were previously taken over in 1911 by Hammond, Mudd, Keith and Hobbs, operated until 1918, with production about 1,560,600. Since 1918 the mine has been kept in workable shape and is now ready for extensive operation. The title now rests with the new company. From its inception the mine has yielded several million in product.

Since ownership changed, Burke added Studebaker and Eski ne agencies with Erskin cars already on display in Barstow.
