The Barstow Chamber of Commerce will meet Monday evening June 13 to discuss issues vital to business and property owners. Topics include city incorporation, a new water company, electric rates, rail crossings, highway improvements, and other matters before Barstow. A follow up meeting is set for Monday June 18. attendees urged to mark calendars.

Dr and Mrs Slocum operate a camp twenty miles northwest of Barstow aiding miners in opal mining and assessment work. The region yields large gold nuggets and varied minerals. the Slocums, now back in Pasadena, plan return to the camp soon.

Party at Cooper Home Delights Local Young People
On Monday evening at Mr. and Mrs. Cooper home Nellie Cooper and Lillian Burnsides hosted a party for young people. Music and games entertained guests with Helen McDonald, Virginia Wright on piano, Glenn Palmer on banjo and saxophone, and Hugh Roberts on saxophone providing tunes. Hand painted place cards by Lillian Burnsides impressed attendees. Refreshments were served. Attendees included Helen McDonald, Virginia Wright, Lillian Burnsides, Nellie Cooper, Hugh Roberts, Robert Burke, William Smock and Glenn Palmer.
First American railway charter and Carrollton sod ceremony
On February 28, 1827 the Maryland legislature issued America's first railway charter to the Baltimore and Ohio. Charles Carroll of Carrollton officiated the first sod ceremony and lauded the act as rivaling the Declaration of Independence in importance. Foote Improves Ranch At North Harland Area
Lorin M. Foote completed homestead entry before Notary A. J. Weld. He cultivates six acres north of the Harland ranch where watermelons cantaloupes squash and new potatoes and peas are grown. He has pumped water by hand for irrigation and will install a pump and engine within two weeks. The effort reflects pioneer perseverance.

Visalia Plans Municipal Water System Hearing
