Northern California oil well first to yield in region
The Witt well on the Ducker ranch near Petaluma yields 100 barrels daily from a 27 foot pay zone with 7.5 percent gasoline and 12 percent kerosene, suggesting an asphaltum paraffin base. A deeper sand may be reached with another well nearby, while gas flows are noted at the Griffiths well in Napa County. Mining activity rises as Northern California plans expansion and renewal of mineral lands use.
