Mountain Sheep Confiscation Leads to First Arrest in Ten Years

K. K. Langford, a state deputy commissioner from the Division of Fish and Game, visited the Printer office with three mountain sheep heads and hides confiscated in the Newberry district. He spearheads a conservation education campaign for Southern California desert sheep spanning about 500 by 150 miles. An arrest Monday marked the first for illegal killing or possession of mountain sheep meat in a decade. A fresh head and hide were seized. Langford says if locals assist, protection could allow an open season in about five years.
