Harry Learned Dies in Seattle Hospital

A letter from S. M. Learned of Grange Warehouse Co. reports Harry Learned died at Providence Hospital in Seattle. He had friends in Barstow where he worked at the post office before moving to Washington and San Francisco, later returning to Needles and Barstow with the Harvey System news stand.

Mayor of Needles Dies of Pneumonia

M Shannon who served as mayor of Needles for two years died Sunday in Needles from pneumonia after influenza. He was 70, resided in Needles ten years, and owned the Cottage hotel while also running an undertaking business. Survived by widow and three children. Body sent to Kingsboro Fresno County for interment.

Santa Fe To Appoint Local Watch Inspector

Superintendent Simpson and Santa Fe officials met Barstow on Wednesday with F. J. McKee to discuss appointing David Landows as local watch inspector. Landows, formerly Canadian Pacific railway watch inspector, has been recommended for the Santa Fe post.

Miller Family Holiday Visit Plans Include Los Angeles

Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Miller hosted their two sons Forrest and Eugene of Los Angeles last Sunday. Mr. Miller will depart Monday to spend the holidays in Los Angeles and return after watching the New Year’s football game. In the meantime, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Downs of San Bernardino will oversee the Hotel Melrose during the Millers’ absence.

Fr Corts Held Up by Mexican in Oro Grande

Benjamine F. Corts representing Larsen Dye Works of San Bernardino was mugged in the Mexican district at Oro Grande. A gun was at his face and he fought back, receiving a scalp wound. The assailant fled. pursuit by a large posse failed to capture him. Corts, aided by his brother West Corts, received first aid and was transported to San Bernardino for care. The doctor said the injury is not serious.

Mosier Speaks at 20-30 Club Meeting and Skates Prize

At the Rose Inn the 20-30 Club held its weekly meeting. A name was drawn and a pre sent, bought earlier, was awarded to the winner. Printer Pocock received roller skates to collect fines. H M Mosier, superintendent of the Southern Sierras Power Co, spoke on electricity uses and risks. Chairman Davies outlined Monday's Christmas tree program sponsored by the 2036 Club.

Christmas Gifts Sought for Needy at Congregational Church

The Congregational church will observe a white Christmas Sunday and asks all to bring gifts for the needy including canned goods clothes or other donations. Several needy cases have been reported among Mexican citizens and gifts should be brought to the church Sunday.

Killed on Highway Near Newberry Buried in Barstow

Louis Gates aged 69 was struck by an auto while walking on the highway six miles east of Newberry Tuesday night about six o'clock. He died from a fractured skull before train transport to the county hospital. The driver is unknown and has no known relatives.

Kiwanis Christmas Meeting Bright with Jokes and Gifts

Kiwanis held a Christmas week gathering presided by President-elect Harvey Mosier at the request of President George Henderson. Members brought presents for a six year old and a quartet featuring Phil Johnson Bill Knages Mr Hartwick and Glenn Palmer performed comic numbers.
