The 20-3 Club held a Tuesday night meeting with 95 percent attendance. Newt Henderson thanked the group for funeral flowers for his father. Spike Flippin spoke on life in Barstow and Lubin J. Henderson delivered a talk titled The Value and Use of Money urging prudent saving and investment. The meeting closed at 8:30.
Quail in Riverside County are fed from aeroplanes dropping grain to birds sheltering in green pockets spared by last fall’s grass fires. The program, led by the Automobile Club of Southern California, aims to save thousands of quail with winter rains expected to restore food sources. Public warnings urge civilians to stay away from burned areas to protect the birds’ fragile recovery.

Mrs Percy Jordan was taken to San Bernardino hospital for an operation. Santa Fe Agent Whitlow left for Fresno for a loss and damage meeting. Barton Witty spent the weekend in Barstow and is now in Santa Maria. Harry Dobbs visited his mother in Tujuan a. J P Francis is homebound after a slight stroke. PTA plans a Carnival for early January. Pearl King, ill with pneumonia, is out of danger.
Mrs Hudson, mother of Mrs Van Aman, arrived from Los Angeles to care for her daughter who is ill with influenza. Mrs Hudson's son is now ill with the flu. The Van Amans are well.
Mr and Mrs Allen Floyd announce the birth of a fine baby boy born Tuesday evening Mrs Floyd formerly Katharyn Perdue The grandparents Mr and Mrs Perdue express happiness over the first grandchild.
On Friday night December 14 Harper Lake ladies host a bazaar at the Harper Lake school house with a school program and a fish pond for entertainment. Mesdames Franklin Marshall and Belliveau were in town Tuesday promoting the event.
Friday night a farewell party for Frank Rucker was held at Clyde Compton’s home with twenty one guests. The event featured dancing and refreshments including cake and coffee as Mr. Rucker and his daughter prepared to leave for Colorado.
Kiwanis Club meeting chaired by President George Henderson discussed transition to Harvey Mosier as next president. John Phillips of Banning spoke on dogs, noting their long history and superstitions, editing Bow Wow magazine, with Farrar from Hemet and Evenson in attendance.
The annual community Christmas party moves to the Grammar school on December 24 under the 20 30 Club. Judge Lubin Henderson acts as treasurer of the Christmas fund as subscription lists circulate this week. Committee leaders include Herbert Gauldin Mack Rizzardini Carl Jordan Dorse Fissell and Lee Jonas. All Barstow children and their parents are invited.
The board of supervisors widened the protection to ban removal of blossoms leaves berries and any plant parts of native desert and mountain flora including mountain dogwood snow plant tiger lily and yucca. Permits may be issued by the county forester and private land removal requires owner consent. The measure aims to curb wholesale plant destruction and mirrors a similar Los Angeles county rule prohibiting projectiles at cars.
The railroad commission authorizes Wundergrade crossing installation near Helendale with the county covering 750 of the expense and Santa Fe Railroad paying the remainder.
Mrs. George Henderson hosted a small gathering last Friday night to celebrate the birthdays or anniversaries of Miss Prather and Alfred Henderson with a modest dinner and informal social time.
Alma Anderson was summoned to Barstow due to her father Dr. B C Andersons serious illness. After several days his life was despaired of but he is now slowly regaining strength.
Miss Ethel Prather hosted a birthday surprise on December 6 at Mrs. L J Henderson home in honor of Alfred Henderson. Guests spent the evening playing bridge and socializing.
A Monday meeting at Odd Fellows hall in Victorville brought together farmers and merchants from Barstow, Hinkley, Lucerne Valley, and nearby areas to push the creation of a large Barstow creamery with cooling in Victorville and Lucerne Valley. Speakers cited alfalfa expansion, dairy profits, and local stock purchases as groundwork for the project.
Mr and Mrs J E Wetenhall depart Barstow on Thursday to settle in San Francisco. They leave many friends behind after years of residence. J E Wetenhall served as foreman in the water service department of the Santa Fe.
The Bakersfield Drillers football team travels to Phoenix to face the Coyotes of Phoenix High. Bakersfield has held the state championship for the past five years. Mrs J R McCail and sons Gerald and Frank Matlock visited at Mrs Evans home between trains. Mrs Stanley Simpson and Bill and Raymond Haggard visited Mrs Simpson's daughter Mrs W M Howland at her home between trains. Mrs H V Douglas and daughter Geraldine and Mrs A L Krug and daughter Elizabeth were Barstow visitors joining the trip to Phoenix to watch the game.
